Proposed Digital Innovative Solution to fast rack and trace all contacts possibly linked to infected patients to complement efforts being made to control the spread.

Ospba Novat Limited, a newly founded Ghanaian Digital Innovation Solution provider, specialized in results-based analytics, has developed a complete digital innovative solution as a voluntary contribution to help control and effectively manage the spread of the Corona-virus (COVID_19).

The experiences of the advanced economies is enough evidence that prompt tracking and tracing of every contact possibly linked to infected patients is the first step in controlling the spread of the virus. Hence, we are all at risk if we don’t find innovative ways to address the challenges associated with contact tracing of all infected ones.

What is Contact Tracing, why is it important and Which approach can facilitate speedy contact tracing?

People who have had close contact with someone who is infected with the virus are at higher risk of becoming infected and potentially infecting those they have had close contact with.

How do we find and monitor these contacts after exposure to an infected person?

The faster this is done the better it will help to provide adequate actionable information for the delivery of appropriate care and treatment to the infected ones and to prevent further transmission of the virus.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), this monitoring process can be broken down into 3 basic steps.

Contact identification: Once someone is confirmed as infected with a virus, contacts are identified by asking about the person’s activities and the activities and roles of the people around them since the onset of illness. Contacts can be anyone who has been in contact with an infected person: family members, work colleagues, friends, or health care providers.

Contact listing: All persons considered to have contact with the infected person should be listed as contacts. Efforts should be made to identify every listed contact and to inform them of their contact status, what it means, the actions that will follow, and the importance of receiving early care if they develop symptoms.

Contacts should also be provided with information about the prevention of the disease. In some cases, quarantine or isolation is required for high-risk contacts, either at home or in the hospital.

Contact follow-up: Regular follow-up should be conducted with all contacts to monitor for symptoms and test for signs of infection.

What approach can help National Health Services get quicker results of contact tracing?

The following inherent challenges of contact tracing need an innovative approach to effectively control the spread of the virus:

  1. Adopting the fastest means possible to identify all those who have entered Ghana from any of the affected countries.
  2. Ensuring that all such ones observe self-quarantine for at least 14 days to confirm their status.
  3. Identifying and monitoring people who have started developing symptoms of COVID-19 for prompt treatment and prevention of further spread.
  4. Identifying people who have been in close contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case for close monitoring to prevent further spread.
  5. How to get a majority of people in the country to do self-test of possible infection.
  6. The efficient and effective utilization of essential health care scarce resources in the fight against COVID-19.

Can Digital innovations like Analytics help address the above challenges?

Do we have the right data to do this?

Integrating data from the various state agencies such as immigration, customs, hospitals would be the first option. The next option is to generate data to trace people’s travel history and clinical symptoms, using digital capabilities like the one developed by Ospba Novat Ltd pending approval for implementation. The insight in the integrated data can be analyzed in real-time to track possible infected people with their close contacts and provide the needed update to health authorities and officials to quickly control the outbreak in these critical times.

Note: Transparent, timely public information can also help to allay people’s fears and anxiety.

How do we track and trace every contact possibly linked to infected patients?

Ospba Novat Ltd, pioneers in Results-Based Analytics is ready to work with any health institution especially Ghana Health Service, to implement Analytics solution to assist with the efforts being made in the tracking, tracing and management of every contact possibly linked to infected patients to help control the spread of the virus.

The company combines the use of digital tools like online data collection links, mobile apps and the use of analytics processes and capabilities to generate actionable information to trace and monitor people’s travel history, clinical symptoms, as well as people or places they have possibly spread the virus within the country.

Android and iOS versions of this innovative solution have also been developed pending the approval of the appropriate authorities to be published on the Google Play store and Apple store for download.

This is our humble contribution to support the fight against the spread of the virus.

We would appreciate the help of anyone who will connect us to the appropriate authority to enable us to implement the solution during this lockdown period.

Thank you.
